TrainersHenrietta Knight Although not so well known to American race fans, Henrietta Knight is extremly well known in Great Britain for her astounding number of wins in the Cheltenham Festival (5). Born in 1946, the former biology teacher began training horses at the age of 43. Her first win at Cheltenham was with a horse called Karshi who was owned by her brother in law, Chairman of Cheltenham Race Course, Lord Vesty. She and her husband, co-trainer, and former champion jockey Terry Biddlecombe have had many of thier winners while working with owner Jim Lewis, who contacted them after reading an article about Henrietta in a magazine.
Henrietta's current pride and joy - a horse named Best Mate has won an amazing 3 Cheltenham Gold Cups and is now aiming at a fourth. The horse is a true champion, surviving a potential career ending injury months before his second Gold Cup win. You can soon read much more about this great team, Ms. Knight has recently written a book documenting their story which we hope to be offering for sale within the month.

Now 74 years old, little has changed for this crusty icon of British racing. He still makes waves in the headlines with his off the cuff comments. The former taxi driver and used car salesman is once more aiming at capturing one of the most elusive prizes in National Hunt Racing – The Grand National. His wins in the race with Red Rum, known to his fans as Rummy, are legendary and his entry this year is again a top class animal with great expectations from both the fans and the trainer himself, last year's winner, Amberleigh House. We will be looking foreward to the race to see if lightning can indeed strike twice. Now based in Cheshire he recently paid a visit to the grave of Red Rum.
